Family members say that Lincer Lopez was so excited to get baptized that he couldn't sleep the night before. He and his church group from Garland drove to Lake Waxahachie Saturday so many members could take part in a water baptismal at the same time.
But a day of joy changed when a teenage girl started to drown in the Lake and Lincer jumped in trying to save her.
Waxahachie Police Department responded to reports of a drowning at Boat Dock Park around 12:45 pm. They discovered that Lopez had tragically lost his life while attempting to save the girl.
The girl was able to be rescued by Jacob Bell, who just happened to be on the lake in his boat and was able to revive her with CPR. But he wasn't able to save Lincer.
''He was a hero, he had just been baptized and gave his life to the lord,' he said. 'Our family, we pray for his family, and we pray for the little girl's family. And he was a strong boy, they should be very proud of him,'' he added.
Amen. Praying for Lincer's family and friends as they mourn his passing.
