This weekend, I was out at the lake and saw this little boy standing at the water’s edge, holding a rock. You could tell exactly what he wanted – to throw it as far as he could and make the biggest splash. The only problem? He was way too small to make it reach. But his dad saw what was happening, and without saying a word, he picked up a rock too.
The little boy pulled back, put all his effort into it, and tossed his rock… about two feet. But at that exact moment, his dad launched his own rock far out into the water. Huge splash. And of course, the little guy lit up – cheering, jumping, the works.
And I just stood there thinking, That’s exactly what God does for us.
No matter how hard we try, we can’t make it on our own. Sin separates us from Him, and no amount of effort is enough to bridge that gap. But just like that dad stepped in when his son didn’t have the strength, our Heavenly Father stepped in for us – doing what we never could by sending Jesus.
Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.”
So if you’re feeling like you’ve fallen short, like you just don’t have the strength to measure up, take heart. You were never meant to do it alone. God’s got you, and He’s already made the way.
